[ CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS ]
PCW develops web sites which allow its clients to update and manage their content. Content Management Systems are therefore important to every web site designed, optimised and maintained for PCW’s clients.
The value of a content manager, which is bespoke to each web site, is the ability to publish content to the web site in real time. No longer is a third party required with html editing skills or a proof reader to check the formatting and layout of each page. PCW’s, “what you see is what you get” (WYSIWYG), content management systems integrated into the database on the administrative side of the web site. This means the client can log in from anywhere in the world, through a browser and password protection to update web site text. The content management facility provides a simple user interface with formatting tools like Microsoft’s Word for Windows. There is no fancy client side downloads which need to happen either. HTML editing and knowledge are replaced by the content management solution. Adding new web pages, editing existing web pages or deleting web pages through the content solution is easy. On larger web sites where work flow processes and approval is required for publishing content security levels can be introduced for approval. Time bound content which requires management on dates pre-publishing can be entered through the editing facilities with a date stamp to go up and come down. Businesses are made more efficient through the content management web site software, by saving time, resources and money to upload content.
A very important content management facility designed within PCW’s content management system is the image library. Images are edited, renamed and optimised before being uploaded to the content library. Images can be categorised and saved to the web site database. When the pictures are required for placement on a web page the webmaster simply references the images from the image bank. Formatting and placement of images on the web page is all done in the html editor with no technical skills required, other than a limited knowledge of Word for Windows. An easy to use editor’s guide and notes is always on hand should the webmaster be unsure about how to upload, format, edit, delete or add elements of content to the web design.
